Dessert at Shake Shack

With winter behind us and summer in its place (what happened to spring?!) I suppose that some talk about ice cream is in order… (although I’d eat and write about ice cream probably any type of weather, cause it’s one of my favorites!).

I met up with a friend for a snack at Shake Shack and I wasn’t in the mood for a full meal, so instead I opted to try out the custard flavor of the day, which just so happen to be peanut butter chocolate all in one.  Jeepers, my mouth is watering just thinking about it.  Shake Shacks Custard Calendar (<–this one is April) is updated each month so check online or in stores to see what the latest flavors are.  Looks like the month of April has some amazing flavors with Malted Marshmallow Milk Chocolate and Boston Cream Pie as flavors. Oh boy!

So needless to say I loved every single rich/decadent bite of my frozen custard. Whether you find yourself near Dupont Circle or at Nat’s Stadium, some frozen treat from Shake Shack is definitely one to try…plus their other food is top notch too, especially their cheese fries!

Dessert at Pie Sisters

Just over the Key Bridge is a quaint little shop that opened a year ago in Georgetown called Pie Sisters.  The story goes that three sisters left their corporate jobs and came “home” to do what they know best: baking.

Pie Sisters InteriorEven if we weren’t from the South, I still think I would love pies, so we had to check this place out.  Since it opened we have been a few times and each time we enjoy the little taste treats.  Their menu ranges from full 9″ pies to slices of pies to individual servings called cuppies.  They have sweet pies, like chocolate cream and s’mores, which are my favorite, and other savory pies like Chad’s Chili pie and pulled pork barbecue.  I enjoy just grabbing a slice and sitting by the window and watching the world go by as I savor each bite.

Dessert at Sprinkles Cupcakes

If you live in the DC metro area you already know that in the past few years the cupcake scene has taken over…we have cupcake stores and cupcake food trucks everywhere… but when you have cupcake options, especially if they are just blocks apart, the discussion always becomes ‘which cupcake is better??’

In my own opinion (and yes, ask someone else and they will probably have a different one), I think that Sprinkles on M St. in Georgetown has the best cupcakes.

SprinklesSprinkles stands out to me because of their flavors and the freshness of their cupcakes.  Instead of just being a plain yellow or chocolate cake cupcake base with frosting, they have flavors that are banana bread or pumpkin bread as the base and topped with delicious icing.

Plus, the cupcakes are baked throughout the day, meaning they are more likely to be fresh when you swing by to devour one.  And if the flavor and freshness argument isn’t enough, Sprinkles usually doesn’t have too long of a line, so it’s just a few minutes between you and your fabulous dessert.
