Dinner at Brasserie Beck DC

Brasserie Beck‘s is almost a hidden gem in Downtown DC.  Found on K St and 11th between McPherson and Metro Center, they serve casual Belgian food and beer.

I think BB has a great happy hour, especially with $5.00 wines and delish bar bites, but their mussels are worth the trip alone.  Ordered half portion or full portion you can make them an appetizer or a full meal.  We ordered the Classic White Wine with roasted garlic, parsley, and cream as well as the Wild Mushrooms version with applewood-smoked bacon and truffle cream.  Though both were good, the wild mushroom was out of this world.

Besides the mussels, I love their caramelized brussel sprouts side.  Once I was running 30 minutes early to a meeting and stopped in and grabbed a seat at the bar just to get the brussel sprouts…these come out in a “serving size” cast iron pan covered in so much cheese and bacon that you can barely see the roasted brussel sprouts underneath. (I’d opt to skip the poached pear, but trying the dish for the first time, leave it in there for a sweet/savory experience.)

With no doubt I would recommend Robert Wiedmaier’s Brasserie Becks, whether you grab drinks and food at the bar or enjoy a meal on their patio (weather permitting).
