Just typing the words District Taco makes my mouth water. I would probably eat a Mexican style meal every day if it was socially acceptable. So after moving up from NC a few years ago I went on a hunt to find a tasty go-to place for Mexican. A few friends suggested District Taco on Lee Hwy (hwy 29) past the main section of Arlington. Since their location is not on our typical driving route I tended to forget to try it, but finally one day I made a special trek out and I probably have gone at least once a month since then.
The set-up for the Arlington location is a walk-up and order at the register, then take your flashcard that teaches you to say something like el gato for cat in Spanish, grab your toppings like extra salsa, jalapenos cilantro, etc. from the toppings bar against the wall, then find yourself a seat and listen for someone to yell the Spanish word on your flashcard so you can raise your hand and get your food.
Once we found the Nachos Borrachos which is chips, black beans, chicken or steak, cheese, sour cream, Salsa de Chili, and all the toppings we want piled on top, we have had a hard time deviating.
The nachos are big enough that you might end up taking some home if you can talk yourself into stopping to consume the deliciousness…or you could share. District Taco’s menu includes other things though like breakfast burritos that are served all day, burrito bowls for the health-conscious, and great options for kids meals. The place is clean, workers are nice, and the food is great! Only negatives are that it is easy to miss driving by it and the parking lot isn’t that great, but it is still worth a trip!
Plus, last year they opened a location on F St NW in DC, which always has a line out the door during lunch hours, but it’s a great option if a trip to Northern Virginia is not on your radar. Along with the District Taco Cart, which serves tacos and burritos in DC and NOVA, and can be found via their twitter page.
